What's New For 2024?
GMC is giving the Sierra 2500HD a variety of changes for the new model
year. Along with light visual changes like a revised front fascia with newly
available LED headlights and taillights, there's a revised powertrain that
offers more towing capacity and an all-new trim.
This year, an all-new trim called the Denali Ultimate trim joins the
2500HD lineup. As a more luxurious model than the Denali trim, the Denali
Ultimate adds leather-wrapped door panels, steering wheel, and A- and B-pillar
handles. There are even 16-way power-adjustable front heated and cooled messaging
front seats with a topographic map of Mount Denali in Alaska.
As for the revised powertrain, Burlington customers will find the
401-hp 6.6-liter V-8 loses its six-speed automatic transmission in favor of a
10-speed automatic. Also, the Duramax turbocharged diesel V-8s have increased
power and now output 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque,
respectively.
Performance
Powering the GMC Sierra 2500 is a gas-powered 6.6-liter V-8 that
generates 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. This powertrain pairs
with a 10-speed automatic transmission and can be equipped with rear- or
four-wheel drive. As for the optional Duramax diesel 6.6-liter V-8, this engine
produces 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque and utilizes an
Allison-certified 10-speed automatic.
The increased power also means a greater towing capacity across the
Sierra 2500HD lineup. Now, this Essex resident will be able to tow a max of
22,500 pounds at the hitch.
Technology
The revisions to the Sierra 2500HD provide the pickup with new
technology. There's an adaptive cruise control with trailering, gross
combination weight (GCW) alert, and GM's Transparent Trailer View, which is
compatible with gooseneck and fifth-wheel trailering.
Additionally, every Sierra 2500HD model also comes standard with a
touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Most trim
levels utilize an eight-inch screen and have a set of rotary knobs and physical
buttons that are easily accessible.
There's also a massive 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen with a more
integrated experience that comes with built-in navigation, a Bose audio system,
SiriusXM satellite radio, split-screen navigation, and wireless Apple CarPlay
and Android Auto.
Safety Features
Every Sierra 2500HD model comes with various driver-assistance
technology. But only a fraction of them come standard. Standard safety features
include forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, and
lane-departure warning. The GMC Sierra 2500HD also has a comprehensive camera
system that features up to 15 different viewing modes, including a
"transparent" mode, which allows drivers to virtually see through an
attached trailer as if it wasn't there.
Additionally, the new updates to the model extend to the Sierra 2500HD
as well. Included in the addition of the AT4X off-road trim, there's an AEV
Edition that comes with steel bumpers and stronger skid plates.
